About us

The ASISA Foundation is a non-profit initiative of the savings and investment industry, delivering effective and objective financial literacy, micro-enterprise development and retirement fund trustee education programmes to South Africa’s most vulnerable groups.

“The ASISA Foundation has, through enabling legislation and optimal structuring, grown from a concept into an extremely powerful vehicle for facilitating change in the lives of ordinary people. When people come together to collaborate in the interest of the common good, powerful and positive things can happen.”

Ruth Benjamin-Swales, ASISA Foundation CEO

The programmes of the Foundation are:

  • WageWise: which targets workers and helps them manage their current and future income better.
  • L+EARN: targeted at young adults to better understand and manage finances and to take charge of their current and future incomes. This programme currently has two distinct target beneficiaries:
    • L+EARN #BIZ: aimed at youth business owners.
    • L+EARN #SecureTheBag: aimed at tertiary education students at TVET colleges and universities.
  • FLAME: a financial literacy programme which helps micro-enterprise owners to generate sustainable income, manage and grow their businesses and manage their business and personal finances better.
  • Build Up: focused on supporting members of organised community structures such as co-operatives with improved levels of financial literacy and financial capability.
  • RFTE: provides training to retirement fund trustees and principal officers to equip them to deliver on their governance roles and responsibilities and ultimately to improve their fund members’ retirement prospects.
